This site has gone so very quiet of late. Really would love to hear from someone who has visited in the past few months to tell us all about the new management. Also would like to hear about repairs to Aqua Pier - we were on holiday when the pier (and part of the house reef) was damaged.

Lend me a couple of bob Sis and I'll pop over a take a look for you Smile Posts to the 'official guest book' also seem to be slower than they used to be. Most of them from frequent visitors at that.

Hello fellow Komandoo-addicts...

I know exactly what you mean - I keep checking back to see if there are any new posts but it's been really quiet for a long time. I did think about posting but I'm not sure me being excited about going back and counting down the sleeps (92 by the way) counts as news in anyone else's book!

This will be our third visit to Komandoo which still makes us relative newbies compared to other repeaters but nevertheless I'm so looking forward to going back. This time we've booked a jacuzzi beach villa (first time we did a water villa and last year we had a beach villa so this will make the full set) and will be emailing a couple of weeks in advance to request the sunrise side of the island this time - hopefully quite do-able as there are more jbv's that side anyway.

Last time we went was October last year so well before the damage to the pier, hopefully someone will have posted an update as to the renovations/repairs long before our next visit (October again...there's a pattern emerging) but if not then I promise to report back!

All best,
Jan

Hi Jan and all other watchers of this forum, hubby & I keep checking, also, its an addiction.
We've booked to go back next March so have too many sleeps to even guess at until we're digging our toes into that soft sand and enjoying a relaxing drink in Silva's Bar !!!
Are hoping PIXIE will post a report when she gets back, think she should be there (or nearly there by now)
Sooo want to be there.

Quick update on the jetty - apparently it's all fixed up again now and they had the Repeaters Party there last week as its first 'official' function! sunny

Hi
I have just found this Forum after noting that the official community forum seems to have stopped.
We are returning to Komandoo after three years and was hoping for reassurance that things have not changed

Hi Chris,

We first went to Komandoo in October 2009, then October 2010 and October 2011 - the key difference we have found in that time is the change in management - Fulhu has now been made manager and he's doing a brilliant job. What's really nice is that the staff were all so pleased about his appointment, he was definitely a very popular choice and it shows.

I'm sure you will have read of the building work that has been carried out at Hinnavaru in various reviews on Trip Advisor and elsewhere - if the proximity didn't worry you previously it won't bother you this time either - of course you can see it's been made bigger but to be honest it doesn't really make that much difference from Komandoo, the extension is to the ends of the island and the far side so you don't even see that much of it . The one major advantage of having the work finished now is that the problem of litter coming across from the island has been sorted out, we did see quite a bit in the first two years we were there but can honestly say there was nothing last time, the beach was pristine.

One planned change is to convert all the villas on the sunrise side to jacuzzi beach villas, and all the villas on the sunset side will be beach villlas. As far as I know that hasn't started yet though.

Front Office Supervisor Clare Hager joined the management team early last year - she's extremely pleasant, helpful and has the best 'can-do' approach I've seen in a long time, nothing is too much trouble and if there's something you need that she can sort out then you can rely on it happening.

A very nice touch is the introduction of fruit kebabs, smoothies and ice-cold towels brought round to the villas during the afternoon - just what you need when you're hard at work relaxing in the sun!

Silva still reigns supreme at the bar - everything still runs like clockwork under his watchful eye and your glass will not stay empty for very long!

I hope this helps - when are you planning to go - how many sleeps? sunny

All best,
Jan

Hi Jan
Thanks for the reassurance ,it would have been a shame if things were not the same as we had such a great time in 2009
Our first island in the Maldives was called Ari beach , white sands,Diva etc. it was a fantastic place then they decided to go upmarket and spoilt the place so we were woried that Komandoo was doing somthing similar, what with talk of swimming pools etc. We will be there june the 17th (cant wait)

thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

I did ask about whether there were any plans for a pool as we'd heard/seen a few comments suggesting that one was needed. At the moment the management are resisting any calls for a pool as so many of the repeaters have said they don't want one, which is great news.

Have a fab holiday sunny - what's the weather there like in June? We stick to October as the visibility in the water is good (my partner Tony is a keen diver) but would be tempted to go earlier if the diving is good.

All best,
Jan

Hi Jan
We have always been to the Maldives in June and we have never had bad weather (perhaps we have been lucky)
infact apart from the first time we went we have not had any rain, Tropical rain storms are quite exciting as long as not too often or too long! We were atracted to the Maldives first in the "rainy season" because of the price, can you believe we paid £500 each for 14 days half board, admittedly that was 10 years ago but still half the price it was in october/november even then. I dont know about the diving as I only snorkel ,perhaps a diver will see this and reply!
though I expect it will be slightly more dodgy than october.as there is more of a chance of rough seas.
One year although beautiful weather the sea was too rough for the small seaplane they sent for us to land so it went away, A bigger plane then came for us but we were hoping that it would be too late to catch the last plane out of Male so we could stay another day.
We were quite late and the airport had closed but unfortunatly there was one person at each point we had to go through, and the plane was waiting for us on the tarmac when we got on the plane 200 sets of eyes looking at us blaming us for the hour they had been sat in the heat!
I think things have got a little more modern these days and prices seem to have come closer.

cheers

Chris

Good Question "where is everyone?"
We were also there last year when the pier got badly damanged by that tanker, I think we meet you both! You were there with another couple and if I remember you used to work for the ploice force and now you into bank security, maybe I have you confused with someone else.
Does David and Nicole ring any bells?
We are coming back to Komandoo in late Feb 2013 for 3weeks, our 30 year wedding anniversary, Nicole my wife wants 1 week for every decade we have been married, so 3 weeks it is, she does deserve it! I've reserved a JBV this time.
I hope Claire is still working there, she was brilliant with all of our concerns.
If anyone else has any news post it! Lets get it up and running again.

Certainly do remember you both - and what a fabulous holiday we all had. Meeting up with the 'other couple' this evening actually! Both gents are retired now. Would dearly love to return to Komandoo. My brother and sister in law introduced us to the resort in the first place and they would love to return too. We keep doing the lottery so maybe 'one day'!

Hi Jenny,

It was really lovely to here from you I hope you are both well and in good health, if I remember your husband was a little unwell during your holiday and was due to have an operation soon after, I hope all went well and he's playing lots of golf and taking care of the house and garden and of course YOU, and enjoying his long earned retirement. Apparently there building an infinity pool on the island and updating some of the villas so it should be like new when we go next time, its taken us a long time to save up for this holiday but its worth it, its a wonderful quiet adults only island.
We Cant wait to go, its a long way off but looking forward so much and we talk about it almost everyday, looking forward to something is half the fun as they say.
Give our regards to your hubby and your friends tonight when you see them, I hope they remember us.

David & Nicole

No - we were the 'other' couple! Keith had surgery to his back shortly after we returned from our trip and is much better now. He was the bank security guy. My husband Ken worked for the FCO after his police career. Ken and Keith met at work. If you go to my profile you will see a picture of me with Ken taken during our first trip to Komandoo with my brother.

Many congratulations for your wedding anniversary - in advance. I will certainly tell the others this evening we have been in touch with you. I am sure we have a photograph somewhere of you both.

Please tell us all about your trip afterwards. I really would love to hear all about it. I wasn't keen for them to put a pool in but I guess I would be one of the first to enjoy a swim in there. I just loved snorkelling around the house reef. We watched a TV programme this week which showed the Maldives - and the rubbish we guests leave behind unfortunately - it it made me want to return even more.

Hi...

Just a quick answer to David - hope you don't mind me jumping in here - Clare left Komandoo in February this year, she will be sorely missed! I don't know who is managing the Front Office these days but one thing is certain, Clare raised the bar and will certainly be a tough act to follow. Very Happy

The countdown is on to our next visit in October - too many sleeps but it's creeping slowly closer!
