PostSubject: connectivity and some medical emergency   connectivity and some medical emergency I_icon_minitimeMon May 24, 2010 11:26 pm

I will be going in mid september,

I notice that there is no WIFI and no global roaming for mobile phones in Komandoo in event something pops up. I reckon all these are basic necessities in the new millenium.

In event of emergency, what alternatives can my family do to contact me?

also in event of a medical emergency, is there a clinic or some facilities available in the resort?

As Bob stated mobile signal is not an issue there, I have used both Vodaphone and O2 phones with no problems at all. WiFi is also available if you take your laptop. You need to wander up and find a spot near reception to get a good signal was my experience. There is a covered bench by the dive shop or sit in the bar! Reception give you the password for there 'Open Wireless' so emailing is fine but guess internet banking is out!

A doctor visits once a week I think, comes across from Kuredu if I remember rightly. But if there is an emergency the Island would offer basic help to start and then make the call if the doctor is brought over to you or you taken to him. In cases of serious injury the only option is for you to be taken to a local Island with a hospital. I have no idea what the transfer time would be.

thanks for the input, really appreciate it.

wifi is a welcomed addition, with a wired world nowadays, I reckon I need to be in constant contact with the outside world.

I wonder if packing my own medicine is allowed by the immigration authorities, I reckon it'd be better to pack some basic medicine just in case something happen?

Hi I seem to remember when we were there last october some people including some of the staff using their laptops particularly on the covered bench outside the diveshop and I showed some of the boys my website which they enjoyed looking at but cars are no use in the maldives!Bob.
